1. Controller and Scope
This Privacy Policy describes how Fabian Josef Ritter ('we', 'us', or 'our'), Germany, processes personal data when you use the Evran mobile application and this website (collectively, the 'Services').
Evran is a flashcard app for supported Apple devices. This policy applies to users worldwide, including in the European Economic Area (EEA), the United Kingdom, and Germany. To the extent that mandatory local law grants you additional rights, those rights shall apply.
2. Summary
Evran is designed with a 'Data Not Collected' approach for developer-operated backends. We do not operate servers that store your flashcard content, do not require account registration, and do not collect behavioral analytics from your study activity.
Your flashcard data is processed locally on your device. If you enable iCloud synchronization, Apple processes and stores this data under your Apple ID via Apple's iCloud infrastructure.
3. Categories of Data
Depending on your use of Evran, the following categories of information may be involved:
- Flashcard content created by you: sets, folders, card text, translations, images, drawings, metadata, study progress, streaks, and reminder settings
- Device and app settings required for local app operation and optional notifications
- Copies of your Evran library synchronized via iCloud when synchronization via your Apple ID is enabled
- Information you voluntarily send us via email (e.g., support requests or feedback)
- Basic website connection data processed by our hosting provider (see Section 10)
4. Legal Bases (GDPR)
To the extent that the GDPR applies, we process personal data on the following legal bases:
- Performance of a contract (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR): to provide the app and website requested by you
- Legitimate interests (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR): to operate, secure, and improve the Services, respond to inquiries, and protect our rights, provided your interests do not override ours
- Legal obligation (Art. 6(1)(c) GDPR): to the extent we must comply with applicable law
- Consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR): where required, e.g., for optional communications you explicitly request
5. Data We Do Not Collect
We do not collect account registrations, names, or email addresses through the app itself. We do not use third-party advertising SDKs, do not sell personal information, and do not perform developer-side analytics on your flashcard content.
We do not track you across third-party apps or websites for advertising purposes.
6. Local Processing in the App
Evran stores and processes your flashcard library on your device. This includes sets, folders, card content, images, sketches, study metrics, reminder settings, and items in 'Recently Deleted' until you remove them.
Read-aloud features use on-device or Apple system speech output. Evran does not send your card text to developer-operated speech servers.
7. iCloud Synchronization
If you enable iCloud synchronization, your Evran data will be synchronized via Apple's iCloud services associated with your Apple ID. Apple acts as an independent controller or processor under its own terms and privacy policies.
We do not operate a separate developer cloud database for your flashcards. Disabling iCloud sync or managing iCloud data is done via Apple account and device settings.
8. Imports, Exports, and Files
You can import CSV files with question and answer column headers. Imported content becomes part of your local library and can sync via iCloud if synchronization is enabled.
You can export decks as CSV or PDF. Exported files are under your control once created. Check them carefully before sharing, as they may contain personal or confidential study material.
9. Notifications and Template Library
Local reminders such as 'Daily Study Reminder' and 'Streak Protection Reminder' use device notification permissions. Settings are stored on your device.
Downloaded study templates are stored in your library and can sync via iCloud. Downloading templates does not require us to collect a personal profile.
10. Website and Hosting
This website is hosted on Cloudflare. When visiting, standard connection data (e.g., IP address, browser type, requested pages, and timestamps) may be processed in server logs for security, performance, and operational purposes.
The website does not give us access to your in-app flashcards. We do not use non-essential cookies or third-party marketing trackers on this website.
If you follow links to the Apple App Store, Apple's privacy policy and terms of use apply to App Store interactions.
11. Retention Period
Flashcard data remains on your device and in iCloud according to your actions and Apple settings until you delete it.
Emails you send us are retained only as long as necessary to process your request and comply with legal obligations, and are then deleted or anonymized to the extent possible.
Website log data is retained by our hosting provider in accordance with its policies and operational needs, typically for a limited period.
12. Your Rights Under GDPR
If you are located in the EEA, the United Kingdom, or another jurisdiction with similar rights, you may have the right to:
- Request access to the personal data we process
- Request rectification of incorrect data
- Request erasure, where applicable
- Request restriction of processing
- Object to processing based on legitimate interests
- Request data portability, where applicable
- Withdraw consent at any time, to the extent processing is based on consent
- File a complaint with your competent supervisory authority
Since most Evran data is stored locally or in your iCloud account, you can also delete content directly in the app, manage iCloud settings via Apple, or remove the app from your device.
13. International Transfers
We develop Evran in Germany and serve users worldwide. If you contact us by email or visit this website, data may be processed in countries where our service providers operate, including inside and outside the EEA.
Where necessary, we rely on appropriate safeguards such as Standard Contractual Clauses or equivalent mechanisms for international transfers.
14. Children's Privacy
Evran is a general study tool and is not designed to collect personal information from children. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children via developer-operated app services.
Parents and guardians can manage app installation, iCloud, notifications, and device permissions via Apple family and device controls.
15. Security
Local data is protected by your device security settings, including passcode and biometric unlock. iCloud data is protected by Apple security systems and your Apple account settings.
No method of storage or transmission is completely secure. Protect your device, Apple ID, and exported files, especially if your study material is sensitive.
16. Changes to This Policy
We may update this privacy policy when features, legal requirements, or operational practices change. The updated version will show a revised last updated date.
If a future version introduces developer-side collection of personal data, this policy will be updated to describe what is collected, why, the legal basis, retention period, and your choices.
17. Supervisory Authority
If you are in Germany, you have the right to lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority. You can contact the authority responsible for your place of residence or our registered office in Germany.
